About Antonia
Antonia is an oil painter originally from Germany.
Her studies in philosophy, economics and law and her work as a lawyer brought her to London and Singapore where she painted during her free time.
Currently Antonia is completing the full-time drawing and painting programme at the Barcelona Academy of Art to further develop her drawing and painting skills.
Antonia’s paintings are inspired by her curiosity about different cultures and love for figurative art.
Artist Statement
Painting, for me, is a way of communicating how I see and imagine the world to be.
The visual language of drawing, painting, and colour is for me logical, philosophical, and creative all at the same time — and this combination allows me to express myself and connect deeply with others.
When I paint, I stop thinking and focus entirely on the moment — for me this is an essential grounding process in an increasingly digital world.
I am most inspired by street scenes and landscapes with people in it: moments where human presence and the environment interact. Having lived in both Asia and Europe, I find endless fascination in how culture shapes our visual and emotional experience.
In Singapore, I experienced what it feels like to be a foreigner in a vastly different culture. In Europe, I am continually drawn to the richness of its shared yet diverse histories. My work aims to communicate these contrasts and connections, translating lived experience into colour and form.
Only when I take the time to paint — to truly observe — do I feel I really see the world around me.
